Image Acquisition
The Image Acquisition work package manages image acquisition as requested by the JRC or defined EC programmes (e.g. CAP Controls with Remote Sensing). This involves the efficient management of feasibility studies; planning, programming, acquisition and ordering through to delivery and invoicing. Also it involves performing geometric benchmarking of satellite sensors that become available for the EC programmes.
The work package also manages the Framework Contracts for Supply of Satellite Remote Sensing Data products and associated services to European Institutions and Bodies of the EU. Such Framework Contracts have been signed with most commercial High Resolution and Very High Resolution Image Providers.

Data Return and Image Archiving
At the end of any CwRS Campaign all imagery must be stored in the CIDportal. The majority of the source imagery for 2011 has been harvested automatically by CID via ftp; any exceptions will be communicated to the contractor(s) concerned.
The VHR orthorectified imagery needs to be returned (ref. CTS § 9.5.4 and the VHR Imagery Specifications for the CwRS programme § 11). The delivery of data must be accompanied by the following documentation:
- the metadata for the ortho corrected imagery - see metadata application for image return
- it is preferred that the VHR ortho imagery is sent to the JRC on a HD, to the following address: Cherith Aspinall, European Commission - JRC IES - Digital Earth & Reference Data - CID, T.P. 266, Via E. Fermi, 2749, I-21027 Ispra (VA), ITALY
The mission of the JRC is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU policies. As a service of the European Commission, the JRC functions as a reference centre of science and technology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national.
