GMES Support

GMES Support

The overall objective of GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) is to provide information services allowing European policy makers, the academia, companies, NGOs and private citizens to have access to precise environmental and security data and information, produced under European control and tailored to the needs of a wide range of users. GMES delivers services under the supervision of the EU, initially in the fields of land, marine and atmosphere monitoring and emergency and security management.

GMES is at the status of implementation of its initial operations during the period 2011-2013. For further information on GMES please refer to http://www.gmes.info/

One objective of the action is to profile the CID portal services as a future player within GMES image data archiving, access, and distribution of non ESA sensor data.

Support to the GMES Initiative is provided by giving input to the GMES Bureau in the fields of data policy and data archiving. CID action representatives participate in relations with ESA, industry, GMES user contacts, and GMES satellite remote sensing data providers. Input is given on the GMES Space Component Data Access, on future GMES Data Licensing issues, and on issues concerning archiving/distribution of acquired data.

In general the work package is striving to enlarge the CID image acquisition management to serve further defined EU organizations. It works towards the implementation of improved responses and new approaches associated with EU Policies and in issues relating to long-term access to space data.
