CID history
The CID Action was created in January 2007 at the start of the 7th Framework Programme. It was part of the former MARS-PAC Action of the former Agriculture Unit of the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen.
Most of the staff are involved in the acquisition and archiving of the satellite imagery needed for the Control with Remote Sensing campaigns. More information about these activities can be found here.
On 01/01/2011 the MARS Unit transferred to the Institute for Environment & Sustainability (IES). On 01/01/2012 the CID Action was transferred from the MARS Unit to the Digital Earth & Reference Data Unit.
The mission of the JRC is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU policies. As a service of the European Commission, the JRC functions as a reference centre of science and technology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national.
