CID Action
Overview
The competitiveness of the European economy benefits from increased access to harmonised information and interoperable services related to items of community policy relevance. Innovation in a knowledge intensive society includes making this information available in an efficient way and storing it in a secure manner.
The CID (Community Image Data portal) is an Action launched under the 7th Framework Program, in the Digital Earth and Reference Data Unit. It relates to the acquisition, access and storage of Satellite (and aerial) Remote Sensing data in the context of the JRC and Commission Services' needs. The Action also provides support in the field of data policy and data management for GMES.

The mission of the JRC is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support for the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU policies. As a service of the European Commission, the JRC functions as a reference centre of science and technology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national.
